Made to order: 5-6 week lead time
100% ethically sourced naturally dyed and undyed wool
Handmade by Artisans in Morocco
We work in partnership with talented Moroccan weavers to bring you the very best quality of traditional rugs merged with modern designs. Our wool is sourced from shepherds in rural Morocco and hand dyed with low impact dyes. The purchase of this rug supports female artisans and their families in Rabat, Morocco, and helps preserve the age old culture and tradition of rug making.
Each rug is custom made by hand, and we are happy to work with you to make small customizations to color or specific dimensions. Feel free to email bekka@shopsanjunipero for custom inquiries.
Free shipping to U.S. and Mexico
We ship your backpack directly from Mexico. Please allow 8-10 days for delivery, depending on destination.
Will my computer fit in this backpack?
Likely, yes! We tested this with a 17" laptop, the biggest one we could find. It was a perfect fit.
How should I clean my backpack?
Stains can be blotted out of the woven wool by adding warm water directly to the stain and blotting all liquid out of the wool with a towel. The water will help release the spilled liquid from the wool. If a stain remains, you can spot treat with a gentle, natural, wool safe stain remover.
RESPONSIBLE SUPPLY CHAIN
We purchase from responsible and ethical suppliers at every step of our supply chain. Our wool is sourced from cruelty-free rural shepherds, then hand-dyed using low-impact dyes before being woven into your beautiful, one-of-a-kind rug. We believe in supporting small businesses, the heart of the world economy. No huge suppliers or harsh chemicals here, it’s just that simple.
Women are the bearers of the Moroccan weaving tradition and each woman, family, and region upholds distinct styles and techniques, honed over hundreds of years. Though the recent design trend in vintage Moroccan rugs shines a very well deserved light on their unique beauty, vintage on its own does little to support artisans who are alive and weaving today. Buying contemporary creates financial incentive for the weavers to preserve their craft and pass cultural knowledge on to their children, thus protecting the weaving tradition for generations to come.
ETHICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT
In our workshop, we put the needs and comfort of our artisans at the forefront, ensuring their working space is clean and safe— even fun! We supply them with high-quality materials and tools so that they are able to practice their craft to the absolute best of their abilities. We cultivate an environment centered on professional development and self care, setting aside time each week for both.
